Ideas
The following ideas illustrate aspects of personal evolution based on the importance of attitudes and emotional perception
Reality
Reality
Reality can best be understood and described in terms of its underlying dynamics, namely change, creativity and influence
The purpose of living is to accept the nature of reality and evolve through a deeper connection
We make this connection primarily through our feelings
There is also a shared intellectual perception of reality that depends on the knowledge base of society, its changing constructs and how we communicate
Basic attitudes
Basic attitudes
We have two basic attitudes in relating to reality: to connect or to disconnect
With connection, the integrity of our feelings is paramount
Connection leads to intimacy, creativity and ethical living
With disconnection, the attraction to wealth, power or status is paramount
Disconnection leads to exploitation and loneliness
Connecting with reality
Connecting with reality
Attitudes can be affected by the three surge points that occur in adolescence, mid-life and in our later years, when we may experience greater energy in our connection with reality
Creativity lies at the heart of connection and reconnection
Perceptual states
Perceptual states
We connect with reality by means of three states of emotional perception: innocence, passion and generosity
All three are available to us regardless of age, though age may play a crucial role in determining their importance
Ethical choice
Ethical choice
Throughout our lives we are faced with moral dilemmas that are central to our understanding of existence
Those who favour connection resolve these dilemmas by making ethical choices
Ethical choice strengthens our connection with reality
True character is the sum of our ethical choices
Personal evolution
Personal evolution
This is best described as a perceptual activity expressed through connection, creativity and contribution, and supported by the exercise of ethical choice and personal responsibility
